What is EFT?
Most people are familiar with acupuncture and/or acupressure techniques. EFT is a form of "emotional acupressure." Dr. Roger Callahan, a clinical psychologist, is credited with the pioneer work which led to the following. Tapping, with a finger, on specific acupuncture/acupressure points, while focusing one’s attention on a problem removes the emotional component.

Dr. Callahan’s work came to the public’s attention under the name Thought Field Therapy. It was also referred to as the Callahan Technique. Although it’s value as a therapeutic tool was immediately apparent, many people found the training complex, time consuming and expensive.

One of Dr. Callahan’s early students, Gary Craig, ( www.emofree.com ) decided to explore the possibilities of simplifying the procedure. Having an engineering background, Gary’s mind set was to streamline the procedure, yet still retain the excellent results achieved by the original. From this, EFT was born.

It is the missing piece to the healing puzzle.
Often works where nothing else will.
Usually rapid, long lasting and gentle.
No drugs or equipment involved.

How does EFT work?

The short answer is – exceptionally well! EFT works by removing the negative emotional component from a memory, event, circumstance or situation. All negative emotions are a disruption in the body’s energy circuits. Learning and using this technique removes distress within your body. Doing so can have a profound and pleasant effect on attitude, perception, relationships and yes, even health.

Think of a negative emotion as a "fuse blower." Since the brain/body’s ability to cope is now compromised, the application of EFT resets the circuit breaker, or repairs the blown fuse. Once this is done, one can begin to think more resourcefully and effectively again. Please remember, 80% of all psychotherapeutic interventions are about resolving the negative emotional component. Can anyone learn to use EFT effectively? Yes! What are the prerequisites? A desire to learn it!

What can you use EFT for?

There are many issues that one can use EFT for. As a matter of fact, the list is almost endless! Please remember that whatever you decide to use EFT on, EFT is a tool or technique whose power and efficiency is in removing the emotional aspect of the problem. It does not replace the need and value in seeking professional help from various medical professionals or specialists. For those interested and curious about the role played by emotions in relation to health, I refer you to the vast amount of literature available on this subject. A wonderful place to start is with Molecules of Emotions by Dr. Candace Pert.

Now, to the list of what to use EFT for. The following information on the many uses of EFT was taken from the personal files of Gary Craig, the Founder of EFT.

Using EFT on Fears and Phobias

About 10% of the population suffers from one or more phobias. They can cause intense fear and often severely limit the lives of those who have them. There are hundreds of possible phobias and EFT can be effective on all of them. Some of the more common ones are:

  • Public speaking
  • Heights
  • Snakes, spiders & insects
  • Claustrophobia
  • Dentists
  • Needles
  • Driving
  • Elevators
  • Flying
  • Bridges
  • Rejection
  • Sex
  • Water
  • Speed
  • Marriage
  • Men
  • Failure
  • Disease
  • Dogs
  • Computers
  • Bees
  • Being alone

Using EFT on Traumatic Memories

  • War
  • Accidents
  • Rape
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • All past abuses, both physical and mental

Traumatic memories generate a wide variety of emotional reactions when people recall them. Some become very intense. They get headaches or stomach aches. Their heart pounds. They sweat. They cry. They may have sexual dysfunction, nightmares, grief, anger, depression and any number of other emotional and physical problems. These are all identical problems because they have the same cause....a disruption in the body’s energy system.

Using EFT for Physical Healing

It is undeniable that negative emotions contribute to physical ailments. To the extent that EFT neutralizes those negative emotions, the physical symptoms appear to subside. The following is but a partial list of physical ailments which have been addressed by EFT with either partial or complete success.

  • Headaches
  • Back pain
  • Stiff neck and shoulders
  • Joint pains
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Psoriasis
  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • Rashes
  • Insomnia
  • Constipation
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Morning sickness
  • PMS
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Arthritis
  • Snoring
  • Stomachs
  • Toothaches

Using EFT to enhance your Self Image

Authorities on the subject of "poor self image" have not developed a precise definition for it nor have they pinpointed a cause. EFT, by contrast, is much more precise in its approach and pinpoints an exact cause. Here it is:

"The cause of poor self image is an accumulation of negative emotions about one’s self."

This is self evident and is stated because, in these terms, EFT makes eminently good sense. If we eliminate the negative emotions then we eliminate the cause. And without the cause the poor self image fades away. And what better tool to eliminate the negative emotions than EFT?

Remember the discovery statement upon which EFT is built...

"The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system."

Emotional Freedom Technique - EFT is based on impressive new discoveries involving the body’s subtle energies. EFT has been proven clinically effective (over 80%) for:

  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Fears
  • Phobias
  • Trauma
  • Abuse
  • Grief
  • Addictive cravings
  • And hundreds of physical symptoms
